In the Spotlight: Music Ways

Music Ways Ltd is a prominent dealer of musical instruments, based in New Zealand.

The company enjoys a long and successful relationship with John Packer Musical Instruments, as Music Ways’ general manager, Rhys McDonnell, explains…

Give me an overview of Music Ways.

RMc: Music Ways is celebrating its 50th year in business this year. It was started by my father back in 1974. We distribute all things musical to the New Zealand market.

Tell me about your relationship with John Packer Musical Instruments.

RMc: I believe we were the first distributor to take on the JP range. Our history goes right back to the very beginning, particularly between my father, Riki, and Rob Hansen. It’s one that I'm very proud to continue with today.

Which products stand out for you across the JP range?

RMc: We're all brass bandies, ourselves. My father was a euphonium player. I'm a cornet player, so we’ve got a natural bias towards that group of products. But we have great success with the complete range. They're great value for money.

We've got a quality instrument, but it's such a good value at the price point.

There's something for everyone within the range – my father included. He was a professional euphonium player, playing with many top bands. He played a JP374 Sterling, and he won many events in New Zealand at all levels.

JP really does cover everything from student through to the high grade.
